Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose

Under general supervision, is responsible for the maintenance, skilled repair, adjustment and installation of electrical systems.

Essential Functions

1. Inspects repairs, adjusts and installs equipment and apparatus including but not limited to electrical and lighting systems, transformers, switch gear, load centers and motor control centers.

2. Must be able to interpret blueprints, diagrams and sketches.

3. Must be able to operate appropriate test equipment.

4. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience/Certifications:
• Minimum of five (5) years in electrical trade with ability to perform at a skilled journey-level and exercise a high level of independent judgment.
• Must provide and maintain own hand tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED,

Skills/Knowledge and Expertise:
• Must possess a thorough knowledge of the electrical code.
• Ability to read and write at an appropriate level and possess good verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to operate hand and power tools and necessary test equipment.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative but not definitive of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Occasional bending, stooping, squatting and reaching. Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and other above ground locations such as roofs. Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Ability to work in confined areas.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work performed in a variety of environments both in and out of doors. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures. Work performed during standard business hours, requires ability to respond to after hour issues/repairs. Overtime is expected.

Valid driver’s license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University’s fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University’s insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.

Requires Asbestos Physical and Respiratory Fit Testing.
